Learn The Meisner Acting Technique
With Skye Hallam
Our next MEISNER TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP will take place on Sun, 24th Feb 2019 (14:00-17:00)
Your Meisner Coach - Skye Hallam
Skye Hallam is an actress from London who graduated from RADA (The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in 2016 and has been working in theatre, tv and film ever since – including The Crown, The Alienist (both for Netflix), and the yet to be released feature film trilogy ‘Intrigo’, starring Ben Kingsley and Gemma Chan.
After being trained in the Meisner technique and having experienced the benefits of incorporating the method into her own work, Skye began coaching Meisner.
Skye believes that every actor can benefit from understanding the values at the heart of Meisner’s teachings and wants to inspire the next generation of actors through practising his methods.
The Monthly Meisner Drop-In Workshop
The monthly Meisner drop in workshop is vital for any actor looking to become more confident and at ease with the Meisner repetition technique. The classes are a great place for you to continue your work on the repetition technique and keep up your practise – it’s like going to the gym… for actors! The three-hour classes are open to all levels of experience. The classes will provide you with a safe space to try out the technique with other actors and explore the technique to its fullest. The classes will be fast paced, and everybody will get the chance to try out the technique with different pairings throughout the three hours. We will work on different forms of the Meisner technique and each month we will introduce a slightly new version of approaching the work.

Fri, 5th April 2019 (18:00-21:00)
The six-week Meisner course is a fantastic opportunity for you to work on one of the most popular and renowned acting techniques in the world. The course will aim to take you, step by step, through the repetition exercise. Working in pairs and with one-to-one coaching these sessions will help you get to grips with the technique for yourself.
Each session will start with a full vocal and physical warm up in order to start the work from a relaxed, open and energized place. Please wear comfortable clothes and footwear.
In the first 2 weeks you will receive a full briefing and introduction about the core values and the philosophy behind the Meisner training. You’ll learn how this technique can guide you in all areas of your work, and why this method allows the actor to open up and build your tool kit with skills such as:
- Being able to actively listen,
- Stay away from self-conscious judgemental thought,
- Learn how to be truly present and receptive with your fellow actor.
By the end of the first two sessions you’ll be able to confidently work through the repetition exercise with flow and ease, benefitting from coaching on the side-lines.
In weeks 3 and 4 we will be focussing on taking the repetition exercise into improv; becoming increasingly comfortable with the technique, letting go of the repetition itself and moving into a more organic way of speaking with your exercise partner. This is an integral part of the transition from working on the technique in isolation, to applying the technique to a scene.
In the final two weeks we will be looking at taking the technique through to the final stage – applying it to scripts. We will work on a simple script from a well-known production, aiming to build up your confidence and experience in applying the repetition technique in a professional capacity.
By the end of the course you will have the skills and know how to apply the Meisner repetition technique to your work and confidently use the technique in any acting situation.
