Gabriel Foster Prior is a British film director, editor and writer whose work has moved from shorts and editing into celebrated feature filmmaking. He trained in film and TV at Edinburgh and began his career cutting award-nominated shorts before editing more than twenty features, including festival premieres such as Lucid and The Wall of Mexico. Over time he built a dual practice of technical craft and creative direction, shaping both narrative and form across formats. 

His first feature as a director is The Bystanders, a genre-blending science fiction comedy that premiered at the Austin Film Festival and went on to win audience and jury prizes at festivals including Sci-Fi London, Sydney Sci-Fi and the Berlin Independent Film Festival. The film subverts familiar sci-fi tropes by following an unremarkable man drawn into a covert organisation of “bystanders” tasked with quietly improving people’s lives, then exploring his turbulent dynamic with his jaded mentor. Critics have praised its imaginative style, wit and blend of British comedy sensibility with speculative ideas. 

Foster Prior’s creative approach in The Bystanders demonstrates both narrative ingenuity and resourceful filmmaking.
